Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Automation (Instrumentation & Controls) Engineer to join our Chicago office in 2027. You will collaborate with a team of engineers on a portfolio spanning public, federal, and industrial projects.

In this role you will design basic instrumentation and controls systems, review component drawings, and develop HMI/PLC solutions while assisting startup and testing activities. A 10% travel expectation may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering; travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, creates basic instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D drafting programs.
• Reviews simple component level shop drawings.
• Creates basic human-machine interface (HMI) designs, programmable logic controllers (PLC), reports, etc.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Assists with testing and startup of instrumentation, controls and related systems.
