Job summary

Defense Unicorns seeks a Senior Mission Manager to lead delivery across Army mission portfolios, translating mission needs into actionable work and ensuring secure software delivery. You will coordinate cross‑functional teams, engage Army stakeholders, and act as a trusted technical advisor throughout the lifecycle.

The role emphasizes operational military experience, platform delivery expertise, and the ability to own outcomes with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Kubernetes in production environments (Azure AKS, AWS EKS, or on‑prem such as RKE2, K3s, OpenShift)
• Experience with Helm for packaging and deploying containerized apps
• GitOps workflows and IaC tools (Terraform, OpenTofu)
• Hybrid cloud architectures incl. networking, RBAC, storage for cloud and on‑prem clusters
• DevSecOps/DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or GitHub)
• Experience with Army, Army Software Factory, or similar DoD software orgs
• Strong communication in fully remote teams
• Self-motivated and independent work style
• Willingness to travel for on‑site training/support

Responsibilities

• Develop deep expertise in Defense Unicorns products (UDS, Fleet, Zarf) and platform tech
• Translate customer requirements into actionable work items and delivery plans
• Own mission outcomes and delivery execution with minimal oversight
• Manage backlog, sprint planning, prioritization, and delivery tracking
• Work with Army stakeholders to understand objectives and gather requirements
• Communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
• Drive identification of customer challenges and future needs
• Monitor delivery risks and coordinate mitigation plans
• Partner with leads, architects, and engineers to align solutions with best practices
• Contribute technical input to proposals, responses, ROMs
• Support onboarding and mentoring of team members
• Participate in hiring and team-building efforts
• Serve as trusted technical advisor throughout delivery lifecycle
