Job summary

Hy-Vee’s Hy-Chi Department is looking for a Department Cook to craft a variety of hot and cold dishes in a busy kitchen. You’ll keep the Hy-Chi cases stocked with freshly made items and maintain high quality throughout the day.

No prior experience is required; we provide training. You’ll greet customers with a smile, support the Hy-Chi team, and uphold food safety standards while delivering meals that satisfy guests.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No prior experience required; training provided.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Communicate clearly with customers and co-workers; work as a team.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and assist them throughout the store.
• Prepare woks by cleaning, heating and adding oil.
• Cook soups and meats; prepare vegetables and sauces; assemble dishes.
• Place food in hot cases; monitor quantities; refill as needed.
• Stock cold case with fresh-made items and prep for the next day.
• Follow Hy-Chi kitchen procedures with accuracy and consistency.
• Take customer orders at the Hy-Chi counter as needed.
• Order products and supplies or notify the department head of needs.
• Clean work area at end of shift.
• Answer the phone and provide friendly service to customers.
