Job summary

Trane Technologies is seeking a Product Design Engineer II to join the Trane Commercial Systems product development team in Wisconsin. You will design HVAC systems, lead design activities, and ensure robust, compliant products from concept through validation.

The role requires a 3–5 year track record in mechanical engineering or product design, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and an ability to work with cross-functional teams. On-site work with option for flexible space.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; 3–5 years in engineering or product design.
• Experience working on cross-functional engineering teams.
• Knowledge of HVAC system design, performance and regulatory considerations.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Familiarity with industry standards (UL/CRN/ASME BPVC) preferred.
• GD&T knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop HVAC refrigeration systems to meet performance, regulatory, quality, and cost requirements.
• Review feasibility and select robust components; develop specs.
• Apply regulatory codes and standards (UL, CRN, seismic, ASME BPVC).
• Create engineering documentation package with reports, drawings, specifications.
• Conduct design FMEAs and risk mitigation (FRACAS, DFMEA).
• Meet internal/external customer needs and prioritize requirements.
• Apply technical expertise to solve design problems.
• Lead project teams to meet performance, reliability, cost, and schedule goals.
• Provide technical support to labs, manufacturing, suppliers, service, and operations.
• Manage project schedules and teams.
• Overnight travel (<5%).
