Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of Human Resources experience in a Generalist, HR Coordinator, or similar role.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, and employment law.
  • Experience maintaining confidential employee information and handling sensitive situations professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Human Resources Generalist – Nonprofit

Location: Houston, TX 77024

Reports To: Director of Human Resources

Duration: Contract - 6+ months

Pay Rate: $24-30/hr.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support the day-to-day HR operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role will serve as a trusted resource for employees and leadership, assisting with employee relations, onboarding, benefits administration, performance management, and compliance. The ideal candidate is people-focused, organized, and passionate about creating a positive employee experience while supporting the organization's mission and growth.

Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Support
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, and workplace procedures.
  • Assist with employee relations matters, investigations, and conflict resolution while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support performance management processes, employee development initiatives, and engagement programs.
HR Operations
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a smooth employee experience.
  • Maintain employee records and HR documentation in compliance with company policies and employment regulations.
  • Administer benefits programs and assist employees with enrollment and benefit-related questions.
  • Process personnel changes, leave requests, and employment documentation.
  • Assist with payroll preparation and provide support for HR audits and reporting.
Recruitment & Compliance
  • Partner with hiring managers to support recruiting efforts, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
  • Assist with job postings, applicant tracking, and onboarding of new hires.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and nonprofit HR best practices.
  • Support HR initiatives, policy updates, training programs, and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of Human Resources experience in a Generalist, HR Coordinator, or similar role.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, and employment law.
  • Experience maintaining confidential employee information and handling sensitive situations professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
  • HR experience within a nonprofit, community-based, or mission-driven organization.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or other HR certification.
  • Experience supporting employee engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Pay Details

Pay Details: $24.00 to $30.00 per hour
