Job summary

MTH Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced Payroll & HR Generalist to manage payroll and support HR functions for our Chicago-area construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have union payroll experience, strong HR knowledge, and a focus on accuracy and compliance, working closely with the CFO. Responsibilities include full payroll processing across multiple sites, benefits administration, onboarding, and audits.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of payroll and HR experience, preferably in a combined role.
• Strong knowledge of full‑cycle payroll, payroll taxes, deductions, and compliance.
• Working knowledge of employee benefits, onboarding, and general HR administration.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary HR and payroll contact for employees and managers.
• Coordinate recruiting, onboarding, background checks, I-9s, and orientation.
• Administer employee benefits programs including open enrollment and communications.
• Process status changes: promotions, transfers, pay-rate changes, leaves, terminations.
• Assist with payroll audits, year-end activities, W‑2s, and reconciliations.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of payroll and HR data.
