Job summary

The Ravin Group is seeking a Payroll Manager for construction payroll in Indianapolis, IN. This role oversees the entire payroll process for field and office staff, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing with a focus on union-related requirements and CBAs.

You will collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT to enhance payroll systems, automate processes, and support audits. A strong foundation in payroll/tax regulations and experience in construction payroll are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • 3–5 years supporting payroll in construction.
  • Experience processing payroll for field and office employees.
  • Union payroll experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and construction payroll requirements.
  • Experience with payroll/accounting systems and technology.
  • Strong Excel and MS Office skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams (HR, Finance, IT).
  • Ability to interpret regulations, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for field and office employees.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, completeness, and deadlines.
  • Apply federal, state, and local payroll requirements, including taxes and deductions.
  • Interpret CBAs involving wages, overtime, classifications, and benefits.
  • Coordinate dues, pension payments, and health/welfare contributions per agreements.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, W-2s, and related reports.
  • Review payroll records and resolve discrepancies with HR, Finance, and operations.
  • Maintain payroll system setup, employee records, pay/deduction codes, and tax data.
  • Partner with HR and IT on system enhancements, integrations, upgrades, and automation.
  • Support payroll audits and provide required documentation.
  • Develop and maintain payroll procedures, controls, and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve data accuracy.

Payroll Manager - Construction

The Payroll Manager oversees the complete payroll process for both field and office employees. This position is responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing, regulatory compliance, payroll reporting, and administration of payroll-related systems.

The role is particularly focused on construction payroll, including union employees, collective bargaining requirements, tax compliance, deductions, garnishments, and benefit contributions. The Payroll Manager also serves as a key resource for payroll technology, system improvements, automation, and process efficiency.

Construction Payroll Manager Key Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for field and office employees.
  • Ensure payroll is accurate, complete, and processed according to established deadlines.
  • Apply federal, state, and local payroll requirements, including taxes, deductions, garnishments, and benefits.
  • Interpret union agreements involving wages, overtime, classifications, and benefit contributions.
  • Coordinate union dues, pension payments, and health and welfare contributions in accordance with applicable agreements.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, W-2s, corrected W-2s, and other required reports.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes, reduce manual work, and improve data accuracy.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive employee and payroll information.
Construction Payroll Manager Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting payroll within the construction industry.
  • Experience processing payroll for both field and office employees.
  • Union payroll experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and construction payroll requirements.
  • Experience with payroll/accounting systems and technology.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with HR, Finance, IT, and field personnel.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, contracts, and technical documentation.
