Job summary

PopUp Bagels invites an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead HR strategy across multiple states. You will oversee payroll, benefits, leave administration, employee relations, and safety, translating policy into day-to-day operations.

Based in a hybrid role, work onsite Tue-Thu in Marietta, GA or Meriden, CT, with up to 30% travel for meetings, events, and site visits. You'll build HR processes, coach leaders, and drive performance management with the VP of HR.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, or related field.
• 7+ years HR experience with multi-state operations.
• Experience managing HR team and performance reviews.
• Strong knowledge of employment laws, payroll regulations, and total rewards.
• Hands-on, operational mindset with ability to translate strategy into daily work.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution.
• Analytical mindset and HR data fluency.
• Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (ADP, Harri, Employee Navigator).
• Travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Operationalize HR strategy into annual goals and timelines.
• Directly lead and develop HR team with regular 1:1s.
• Balance workload across payroll, benefits, leave, risk, compliance.
• Identify gaps and implement improvements.
• Oversee multi-state payroll compliance.
• Own benefits administration and vendor management.
• Oversee leave programs (FMLA, state leave, disability).
• Ensure regulatory compliance across states.
• Lead recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, lifecycle processes.
• Administer performance management and merit planning.
• Manage total rewards program and salary benchmarking.
• Handle employee relations and escalate when needed.
• Oversee safety and security programs (OSHA).
• Create process documentation and analytics dashboards.
• Serve as backup to VP of HR.
• Collaborate with department leaders on hiring and performance goals.
