Job summary

PopUp Bagels, Inc. seeks a Director of Human Resources to lead multi-state HR operations, aligning payroll, benefits, leave programs, and employee relations with strategic goals. The role partners with the VP of HR to translate strategy into daily operational excellence.

The position oversees the HR Manager and Recruiting Specialist, drives performance management, total rewards, and policy updates, and partners with department leaders to scale the business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of progressive HR experience including leadership roles and multi-state operations.
• Experience mentoring HR staff, performing reviews, and supporting career development.
• Strong working knowledge of employment law, payroll regulations, and total rewards.
• Hands-on, results-oriented with practical execution of strategy into operations.
• Ability to build cross-functional relationships and communicate effectively.
• Experience with HRIS/payroll systems and change management initiatives.
• Knowledge of HR analytics and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Operationalize HR strategy into clear annual plans and timelines.
• Directly manage, coach, and develop HR team members with regular 1:1s.
• Oversee payroll, benefits, leave, risk management, and compliance across states.
• Lead recruiting, onboarding, and lifecycle processes; drive performance management.
• Administer total rewards, benchmarking, and pay equity analyses.
• Ensure workplace safety and security compliance and policy documentation.
• Prepare HR dashboards and reports to support decision-making.
• Collaborate with leaders to align HR with organizational goals.
