Job summary

EFCO Forming & Shoring Solutions in Des Moines, IA seeks a Director of Human Resources to build scalable HR infrastructure, ensure compliance, and lead HR operations. This hands-on leader will standardise policies, develop reporting, and position the company for strategic HR leadership.

The role is 100% onsite at our Des Moines headquarters, with a focus on governance, risk management, and employee relations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in HR, business or related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive HR experience with focus on operations and compliance.
• Experience building or rebuilding HR infrastructure in growing organisations.
• Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.

Responsibilities

• Partner with leadership to align HR practices with organisational needs.
• Provide guidance and coaching to managers on HR fundamentals.
• Serve as a trusted, practical advisor focused on execution and consistency.
• Create a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation and customer focus within the HR team.
• Recruit, develop, and lead a high‑performing team.
• Assess current HR practices and identify gaps in compliance, reporting, processes and documentation.
• Establish and standardise HR policies, procedures and workflows.
• Build and maintain consistent employee file management systems.
• Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness across all HR functions.
• Lead I‑9 compliance, including audit readiness and corrective action.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws.
• Oversee and track required compliance training.
• Develop and implement compliance calendars and monitoring systems.
• Evaluate and implement HRIS or optimise existing systems.
• Create reporting and tracking mechanisms for key HR metrics.
• Streamline manual processes and introduce scalable solutions.
• Build tools, templates and resources for managers.
