Job summary

YWCA Greater Los Angeles is seeking an HR Generalist to handle a wide range of HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and employee relations. You will ensure compliance with applicable policies and employment laws, and collaborate with departments to address HR needs.

The role requires strong organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human Resources or related field.
• Three years’ experience related to Human Resources.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 and ADP.
• Bilingual in Spanish highly desired.
• Must be organized, able to function independently, possess initiative, flexible, sound judgement, cooperative and good people skills.
• Hands-on person who is proactive, driven and resourceful.

Responsibilities

• Work with departments to obtain accurate and approved personnel requisitions, establishing a file for each opening.
• Develop accurate job descriptions and revise such job descriptions as necessary.
• Analyze turnover data from departments to improve results, using exit interviews and/or employee input.
• Screen applicants and facilitate zoom interviews.
• Attend selected job fairs and career days as appropriate.
• Coordinate with benefits brokers and insurance carriers to ensure knowledge of current coverage policies.
• Work with HR management on employee relations, performance evaluations, and policy revisions.
• Coordinate employee training, New Employee Orientation, staff meetings, and Supervisors & Managers meetings.
• Maintain Child Development roster of employees’ certifications.
• Publish monthly internal newsletter.
• Participate in Safety Committee.
• Prepare HR reports as requested.
• Maintain accurate HR records and files.
• Enroll eligible staff in medical/dental/vision/life/STD and supplemental insurances; verify and pay bills.
• Process unemployment claims and audits, and attend hearings as required.
• Process State Disability claims in a timely manner.
• Prepare termination packets in accordance with California laws and ensure distribution.
• Distribute COBRA requests, payments and notices.
• Enroll eligible staff in the YWCA Retirement plan; verify eligibility of hours worked and hire date.
• Responsible for Worker’s Compensation paperwork, claims and reports, and act as WC monitor.
