Collaborating Docs is scaling fast, and we’re looking for a smart, scrappy, and proactive HR Generalist & Payroll Specialist to own key parts of our people operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup environment, isn’t afraid of admin work, and has the judgment and initiative to figure things out independently.
What You’ll Do
- Own and run weekly payroll (multi-state, including hourly contractors and salaried employees)
- Lead employee onboarding/offboarding, benefits administration, and compliance tracking
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date state payroll and tax information
Who You Are
- You’ve done this before in a startup: you know how to juggle priorities, move quickly, and handle ambiguity
- You’re comfortable doing the work (data entry, compliance forms) and owning the work (problem-solving)
- You have excellent attention to detail — catching typos, mismatched numbers, and small errors others might miss
- You’re willing to handle any task, from updating forms to resolving payroll issues, and do it correctly
- You proactively ask questions, dig deep, and come back with answers without being prompted
- You are eager to learn, grow, and contribute to building something meaningful
Must-Haves
- 3+ years of experience in HR and payroll (Gusto or similar platform a plus)
- Startup experience is non-negotiable — ideally in a fast-paced, founder-led environment
- Knowledge of employment law, benefits, and compliance across multiple states
- Strong systems/process thinking and a get-it-done attitude
- Based in the U.S. and authorized to work here
