Job summary

HL Mando America Corporation in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking an HR Generalist to support employee relations, compliance, onboarding, recruiting and training. The role requires a proactive professional with 3–5 years of HR experience, a bachelor's degree, and knowledge of employment laws.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of HR experience or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Knowledge of immigration and visa processes preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance: ensure compliance with labor/employment laws and internal policies; participate in audits.
  • Leave of absences: coordinate FMLA, personal, disability leaves; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Employee relations: respond to questions or concerns; participate in disciplinary meetings and investigations.
  • Onboarding: schedule orientation; collect paperwork; complete I-9s.
  • Performance management: coach managers on feedback, PIPs, development conversations.
  • HR data analytics: maintain HR data accuracy and monthly analyses.
  • Recruiting: interview and hire; collaborate with managers on required skills.
  • Training: track and report training participation; maintain records for audits.
  • Immigration & compliance: coordinate with immigration counsel on H-1B, PERM, etc.

Job Summary:

The HR Generalist is a key member of the Human Resources team, responsible for supporting all areas of HR including employee relations, legal and regulatory compliance, performance management, leave of absences, recruitment, onboarding, training, and policy administration.

This role requires a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multitasking environment and demonstrates strong initiative in improving processes, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring full compliance with employment laws. The HR Generalist supports both employees and leadership while fostering a positive and inclusive culture.

Key Responsibilities (other Duties May Be Assigned As Needed)
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with labor/employment laws, regulations, and internal policies to minimize risk. Participate in internal audits.
  • Leave of Absences: Coordinate employee leave requests (e.g., FMLA, personal, disability, ESTA), ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Employee Relations: Assist in managing team member relations by responding to questions, issues, or concerns. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations and investigations.
  • Onboarding: Coordinate and schedule new hire orientation, conduct orientation for all newly hired employees; collect new hire paperwork, complete I9s, and maintain records as needed.
  • Performance Management: Facilitate performance management activities, including coaching managers on effective feedback, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and development conversations.
  • HR Data Analytics: Responsible for maintaining data accuracy within HR systems and compiling data analytics on a monthly cadence.
  • Recruiting: Interviews and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Training: Track, document, and report on training participation and compliance using HRIS/LMS systems, maintaining accurate records for audits and regulatory purposes.
  • Immigration & Compliance: Partner with outside immigration counsel to support H-1B, PERM, and other employment-based immigration processes, ensuring timely document preparation and internal coordination.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of previous or related experience in the HR function
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Knowledge of immigration and visa processes is strongly preferred
  • Prefer HR professional capable of working independently with minimal supervision

This position typically operates in an office environment.

Physical Requirements:

Not Eligible for Hybrid Remote Work Schedule
