Job summary

The Human Resources Generalist at Christian Aid Mission supports all areas of HR and assists the VP of Administration with payroll, HRIS management, recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, and benefits administration.

This role serves as the first point of contact for staff, maintains records, coordinates newsletters and staff events, and ensures compliance with employment laws across VA and other states where employees reside. The position is hybrid in Charlottesville, VA.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of HR or related experience.
• Knowledgeable about federal and state employment laws (VA and other states).
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate employee records in HRIS and electronic files.
• Prepare semi-monthly payroll and related reports.
• Liaise between staff and benefits contacts; assist with enrollments and changes.
• Communicate with staff and coordinate HR newsletters and staff events.
• Maintain staff directories, benefits summaries, handbook, and org chart.
• Support recruiting using ATS (Paycor); conduct phone screens and background checks.
• Manage onboarding and offboarding checklists for new hires and terminations.
• Assist with compensation changes and annual assessment coordination.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws across VA and other states.
