We are hiring for an HR Generalist to join our small manufacturing company and partner closely with the HR Manager as part of a two-person HR team. This role is heavily focused on employee relations in a union environment, serving as a key resource for employees and managers while supporting recruiting, onboarding, attendance administration, performance management, training, and HR compliance. The ideal candidate has strong employee relations experience and enjoys building relationships, resolving workplace issues, and supporting a positive employee experience.

Duties:
Employee Relations & Union Support
- Serve as a primary HR contact for union employees and management.
- Answer employee questions regarding benefits, company policies, attendance policies, and union contract provisions.
- Assist with employee investigations, disciplinary meetings, corrective actions, and terminations.
- Build positive relationships with employees and support a productive work environment.
- Track employee attendance, absences, paid time off, and related documentation.
- Review timecards for payroll accuracy and identify attendance concerns.
- Partner with managers to address attendance issues and administer attendance warnings.
- Coordinate employee recognition programs, including perfect attendance awards.
- Calculate and track overtime metrics and attendance-related reports.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Post and manage union and non-union job openings in accordance with union contract requirements and company hiring practices.
- Coordinate recruiting efforts through staffing agencies, online job boards, and other sourcing channels.
- Conduct interviews and assist hiring managers throughout the selection process.
- Facilitate new employee orientations, including review of company policies, safety requirements, benefits, and onboarding documentation.
- Ensure all new hire paperwork is accurately completed and processed.
Performance Management & Training
- Assist managers with employee performance reviews and documentation.
- Coordinate performance improvement plans and monitor completion timelines.
- Maintain training records and employee training matrices.
- Recommend, schedule, and track employee development and training programs.
- Support managers with employee coaching and development initiatives.
Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Maintain employee personnel files and HR records.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Assist with reviewing and updating HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Support workers' compensation administration and coordinate with safety personnel as needed.
Administrative Support
- Provide HR and administrative support to operations leadership and department managers.
- Generate reports, correspondence, and employee communications.
- Support special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 2+ years of HR experience with a related degree, or 3+ years of HR experience without a degree.
- Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and HR administration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present information and communicate with employees and management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information professionally.
Preferred :
- Experience supporting a manufacturing, production, or industrial workforce.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Knowledge of labor relations and collective bargaining agreements.
- SHRM-CP certification or other HR certification.
- Experience supporting employee training and performance management programs.
