Job summary

The Atlas Hotel in Boston, developed by Highgate Hotels, seeks a Shift Engineer to help maintain the property at peak condition and minimize guest disruption. The role demands hands-on maintenance across guest rooms and public areas, focusing on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a strong emphasis on safety and documentation.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, repairs, boiler and chiller servicing, blueprint reading, and timely response to guest needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; hotel or related field experience preferred.
• At least 1 year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
• Trade school and/or college coursework in related field helpful.
• Heavy work - ability to lift 50+ pounds and communicate effectively with guests and staff.
• Attend required meetings and trainings; maintain regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs across guest rooms and public areas (plumbing, electrical, HVAC).
• Maintain and service boilers, chillers, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues.
• Replace and program televisions, repair door locks, and install/repair lighting components.
• Complete carpentry and cosmetic repairs (furniture, drywall, painting).
• Monitor equipment readings, test cooling towers, and identify abnormalities.
• Read blueprints and wiring diagrams to support troubleshooting.
• Maintain records of preventive maintenance and repairs.
• Ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Respond to guest service requests within 10 minutes; support guest satisfaction.
