Job summary

The Atlas Hotel in Boston by Highgate Hotels seeks a Shift Engineer to maintain the property with minimal guest disruption. You will perform preventive maintenance, service building systems, and respond to urgent requests to uphold guest comfort.

As part of the engineering team, you will read blueprints, document maintenance activities, and ensure safety standards while supporting daily operations and brand expectations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
• Trade school or college coursework helpful.
• Ability to lift heavy loads and work long hours.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Must follow safety standards and codes.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs across guest rooms and public areas, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, furniture, fixtures, and finishes.
• Maintain and service all major building systems, including boilers, chillers, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues.
• Execute routine maintenance tasks such as replacing and programming televisions, repairing electronic lock systems, and installing or repairing lighting components.
• Complete carpentry and cosmetic repairs, including furniture repair and painting.
• Conduct equipment monitoring and record readings.
• Read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams for troubleshooting.
• Maintain records of maintenance and equipment performance.
• Ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Respond to guest service requests and emergencies within 10 minutes.
