Job summary

The Elyton, Autograph Collection by Marriott, is seeking a Hotel Sous Chef to join Ascent Hospitality in Birmingham, AL. You will work with the head chef to manage daily kitchen activities, oversee staff, assist with menu prep, and ensure high-quality, cost-effective dishes while maintaining guest satisfaction.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in a similar role, strong leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to food safety and elegance in presentation.

Qualifications

• Must understand, read, write and speak English to communicate with team members and guests.
• Adhere to health and safety standards in the kitchen.
• Work with kitchen equipment and utensils safely and effectively.
• Maintain a neat, professional appearance and follow company standards.
• Be able to work flexible days and shifts, including holidays.

Responsibilities

• In the absence of the chef, supervise the kitchen and ensure food items are prepared to specs.
• Oversee and organize kitchen stock and ingredients.
• Ensure first in, first out food rotation and proper dating for quality.
• Keep cooking stations stocked and ready for prime hours.
• Hire and train new kitchen staff to standards.
• Manage food ordering, keep records, and minimize waste.
• Supervise all food preparation and presentation to ensure standards.
• Collaborate with head chef on kitchen organization and staff training.
• Verify storage units meet standards and are well managed.
