Job summary

Island Hospitality Management is seeking a Chief Engineer for our Durham, NC hotel. The role requires hands-on problem solving, supervision of maintenance staff, and oversight of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems to keep the property operating smoothly.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, budgeting for department expenditures, and coordinating with contractors and inspectors to ensure safety and quality.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hotel maintenance experience or related field preferred.
• Experience managing maintenance/engineering operations.
• Knowledge of pool maintenance and general facility systems.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in electrical, mechanical, plumbing and guest-room equipment.
• Conduct ongoing room preventative maintenance.
• Resolve maintenance problems and prioritize work orders.
• Supervise and schedule maintenance staff and contractors.
• Coordinate with inspectors to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
• Maintain pool cleanliness and chemical content; oversee exterior maintenance when not contractor-serviced.
