Monk's Bar in downtown Wisconsin is seeking a Lunchtime Host (10:30am–4:00pm, Mon–Fri) to warmly greet guests on arrival, manage seating, and guide guests to the best available table.

Duties include recording names when seating is limited, calling out parties as tables open, providing estimated wait times, offering menus, and thanking guests as they leave. Qualifications: no prior restaurant experience required; ability to stand for long periods; clear communication; exceptional grooming.

• Inspect tables for presentation and completeness and relay messages to servers and bussers.
• Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
• Promote retail sales and assist customers.

Summary of Position:

Welcome and warmly greet all guests on arrival. Manage the efficient and timely seating of our guests to a table that best serves their wishes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Warmly and graciously greet all guests upon arrival.
• When possible, open the front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant.
• When immediate seating is limited, record guest names and number of people in party.
• Call out name and number of party when tables become available.
• Provide guests with estimated waiting time.
• Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible.
• Seat guest guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations.
• Upon seating, offer guests a menu and inform them of their server’s name. Inspect table for proper presentation and completeness.
• Relay messages to servers and bus persons as needed.
• Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
• Promote our retail sales and assist customers.

Qualifications:

• No previous restaurant experience required.
• Be able to working in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 6 hours).
• Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the predominant language(s) of our guests.
• Must have exceptional grooming habits.

Monk's Bar was started in 1947 by Gustave Adolph Heineke and his wife, Helen, on Oak Street, just half a block from its current downtown location. The original menu consisted of a 1/4 lb. hamburger, 1/4 lb. cheeseburger, ham & cheese sandwich, liver sausage on rye, chips, chili and bean soup.
Around 1962, Monk's moved to its current location and the interior became a shrine of Badger memorabilia, due to the fact that Monk and Helen’s sons, Jim and John, were very successful athletes and excelled playing football at University of Wisconsin-Madison for the Badgers. Included in the memorabilia are autographed photos from Jim and John’s teammates through the years of 1952-1958. The bar has since added contemporary Badger and Packer memorabilia.
