Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health Needham is seeking a Pharmacy Technician who will support medication distribution, compounding, and patient care delivery under supervision of a pharmacist.

The role requires MA registration with national certification or eligibility within 60 days, hospital pharmacy experience preferred, and strong math and accuracy skills to ensure safe, efficient medication management across units and outpatient clinics.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalency required.
• MA Registered Pharmacy Technician with National Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) or a MA Registered Pharmacy Technician and obtaining National certification within 60 days of hire; or a MA Registered Pharmacy Intern.
• Demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet the requirements of this job description.
• Previous hospital pharmacy and sterile compounding experience preferred.
• Accurate math skills required.

Responsibilities

• Delivers medication to the patient care units per policies; adheres to DEA and MA Board regulations.
• Accurately fills medications.
• Delivers medications to automated dispensing machines in a timely manner.
• Works with pharmacy colleagues to ensure safe, timely drug distribution; informs leadership of issues.
• Repackages and compounds medications as needed.
• Interviews patients for medication histories when trained; may contact other pharmacies to confirm regimens.
• Maintains appropriate inventory levels; rotates stock and informs buyers when low.
• Receives and processes Prior Authorization requests when trained.
• Organizes outdated or overstocked medications for return to manufacturers.
• Checks floor stock daily.
• May order scheduled VI medications as directed.
• Utilizes all technology to accomplish duties.
• Answers telephone calls and triages requests.
• Understands sterile and non-sterile compounding and hazardous medication handling.
• Participates in continuous performance improvement within the department.
