Job summary

LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, is seeking a PBX/Switchboard Operator PRN to serve as the facility's call center, promptly answering incoming calls and routing them to the correct department, extension, or patient room.

You will page staff using the hospital paging system or beeper per policy, maintain awareness of emergency plans, and assist with code red notifications and directory updates to support safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate ability to utilize computer systems effectively to obtain information when requested.
• Always maintains proper coverage in department during breaks to insure calls are answered promptly.
• Microsoft Office and computer proficiency (required)
• Knowledge of community resources (preferred)
• Associates Degree (preferred)
• Minimum of one (1) year clerical experience working with the public and telephone contact (required)
• Ability to be scheduled on short notice

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming telephone calls and route to the proper department, extension, or patient room.
• Page individuals using the hospital paging system or beeper per policy.
• Maintain current knowledge of emergency plans and implement them per policy.
• Notify Plant Operations of code red calls via email with actions taken to resolve the code.
• Maintain a current Meditech Physician Directory with name, extension, beeper, and home phone number.
