Melrose/Wakefield Hospital is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker for the 2nd shift. The role involves general maintenance, preventive care, and repair across hospital buildings and grounds.

You will work on electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and safety systems while supporting cost containment and equipment reliability. Requirements include a high school diploma and at least 1 year in building maintenance with on-the-job training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• On-the-job training in building trades is included.
• Vocational or trade school completion is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs electrical repairs: switches, ballasts, motors and controls.
• Handles plumbing tasks: drains, fixtures, rodding, cleaning.
• Carries out minor carpentry: doors, shelving, locks.
• Repairs plaster, brickwork or concrete; welds as needed.
• Serves and maintains hospital equipment and systems.
• Repairs patient electrical, mechanical beds and equipment.
• Checks and maintains lighting in hospital buildings.
• Replaces bulbs and fixes fixtures; maintains circuits.
• Inspects hospital systems for proper function (power, HVAC, etc.).
• Removes/replaces defective equipment; procures parts.
• Inspects safety equipment installed throughout the hospital.
• Keeps workshop and equipment clean; handles hazardous materials safely.
• Maintains safety equipment; performs project work.
• Installs new equipment per specs; performs preventive maintenance.
• Performs snow removal and sanding functions during winter.
• Assists coworkers with troubleshooting and repairs.
• Seeks standard of work equal or above applicable codes.
• Adjusts functional parts or installs parts as required.
• Maintains inventory and keeps storage neat.
