Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a dedicated switchboard operator to monitor and operate the hospital’s switchboard and paging systems. The role includes answering, directing calls, and responding to emergencies to support timely communications across departments.

Ideal candidates have strong telephone skills, a high school diploma or GED, and experience with PC-based operator consoles. Training in emergency communication is preferred, and adherence to HIPAA and privacy policies is required.

Qualifications

• Excellent telephone skills and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Preferred training as a Telephone Operator, Receptionist, or dispatcher.
• Experience using a PC-based telephone operator console.

Responsibilities

• Answer and direct all telephone calls and overhead paging inquiries for hospital operations.
• Triages and prioritizes calls by urgency and routes accordingly.
• Respond to alarms, security calls, and medical emergencies immediately.
• Page designated responders for emergencies as required.
• Log emergency response information and monitor alarm reports.
