Job summary

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare is seeking a Communications Operator to manage the hospital switchboard, provide routine information, and direct calls to the appropriate areas. The role includes using the overhead paging system and supporting department telecommunications software.

The position requires responding to emergency calls per established protocols, maintaining records, and aiding in equipment maintenance. Flexibility in scheduling is required to ensure patient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum required education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: One (1) or more years’ previous experience in Telecommunication Operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and provide direct dial numbers as appropriate
• Respond to emergency calls and codes following established protocols
• Assist callers by using the paging or beeping systems as needed
• Utilize the CRMC Information Technology programs designated by the Manager—i.e. Patient Information System, E-mail, and Telecommunications software—proficiently
• Monitor and follow protocols for alarms announced in the Telecommunications office
• Maintain required records and statistics
• Assist in the maintenance and care of department equipment and supplies
• Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
• Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
