Job summary

PeaceHealth in Bellingham, WA, is seeking a part-time Communication Operator (0.60 FTE) to facilitate hospital communications via switchboard, paging, and related systems. The role supports emergency codes, security dispatch, and physician answering services, with prior clerical experience preferred.

The position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced medical environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma Preferred: or equivalent.
• Preferred: Experience working in a medical office/hospital setting
• Preferred: Previous operator or switchboard and clerical experience

Responsibilities

• Operate a telephone console (switchboard), directing calls to appropriate individuals and departments; respond to emergencies.
• Extend and respond to all calls, codes, alarm panels and disaster plans as needed.
• May operate physician’s answering service and handle trouble reports with physicians.
• Assist with directory updates, daily call statistics, and other routine clerical tasks.
• Report console status and system troubles to appropriate personnel; provide back-up to other departments as directed.
• Dispatch service requests as required; perform other duties as assigned.
