Job summary

Sylvania seeks a Garden Club Advisor to teach students about plant science and horticulture, lead gardening activities, and manage club spaces including the courtyard garden, shed, greenhouse, and planters. You will promote environmental stewardship and collaborate with community groups.

The role includes maintaining attendance rosters, coordinating parent communications, and ensuring setup/cleanup for activities, with a minimum of 30 hours and stipends disbursed semi-annually in December and

• Teach students about plant science and horticulture, and organize gardening activities.
• Oversee the club’s garden spaces (courtyard garden, shed, greenhouse, planters).
• Maintain roster and attendance of students and share updates at mid-point and end of activity.
• Coordinate communications with parents via Parent Square or Email about schedules and changes.
• Set up and clean up the activity area; request custodial assistance when needed.
• Engage with community resources (Easton Garden Club, Pollinator Pathway Project, etc.).
• Minimum of 30 hours while the program runs.

Job description

Marketing and communicating the activity:

• Plan to announce both the start and the end of the activity and provide updates, as relevant.


• Create digital (PNG/JPEG formats only) and print flyer(s) for the weekly newsletter and posting in designated spots.


• Announcements (morning audio and for The Den)

• Regular meetings between either 7:00am - 8:00am or 3:00pm - 4:00pm (or later , if applicable). Be in location prior to start. If after school, stay with all students until all are picked up.


• Communicate via Parent Square or Email with the parent of the club members regarding schedule, schedule changes and cancellations. Please give as much notice as possible when canceling and be sure this information is communicated to the parents, not just announced in the building.


• Setup and cleanup the area used for the activity.


• Please request custodial assistance, with sufficient notice, when appropriate.


• Maintain roster and attendance of students, submit or share at midpoint and end of activity.


• Our garden club advisor is responsible for teaching students about plant science and horticulture, organizing gardening activities such as planting, weeding, and harvesting, and overseeing the club's garden spaces (courtyard garden, shed, greenhouse, and planters). The advisor also manages club supplies and tools, as well as promotes environmental stewardship and an appreciation for nature.


• This club also connects and plans projects with community resources (Easton Garden Club, Pollinator Pathway Project, etc.).


• ½ Stipend Paid in December, ½ Paid in June


• Minimum of 30 Hours
