Job summary

South Shore Health in Weymouth, MA is seeking a part-time Histotechnician/Histotechnologist for the evening shift. You will prepare tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation under supervision, embed tissues, section and stain using standard protocols, and conduct routine QC checks.

Requirements include HTL/HT ASCP certification, license within 6 months, and a high school diploma with some college or science training preferred.

Qualifications

HTL or HT (ASCP) - Histotechnologist or Histotechnician.
License required within 6 months from hire date.
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Some College preferred.
Associate Degree in a Science preferred.
Up to two years directly related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Under supervision prepares specimens using appropriate technique to produce an acceptable sample for Pathologist evaluation.
Embeds tissue with correct identification and orientation.
Cuts tissue to suitable level and size for diagnostics; reprocesses tissue if needed.
Ensures protocols followed and uses required stains and special stains as established.
Performs quality control procedures and documents results; reports discrepancies.
Maintains and documents routine equipment maintenance.
Prepares cytology specimens including registration, slide preparation, and related instrument maintenance.
Adheres to Universal Precautions and safety policies; uses protective gear and disposes of waste following protocols.
Participates in safety culture, identifies unsafe conditions, and communicates improvements.
Reports to work on schedule and follows HR policies regarding attendance.
