Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Histotechnologist to prepare tissue specimens by processing, embedding, and sectioning for microscopic analysis. The role includes training staff and escalating issues to leadership as needed to ensure quality and safety.

The position requires 2-3 years histology experience, a Bachelor's degree in a related field, and ASCP HT/HTL credentials. Onsite at 275 Charles Street with 40 hours weekly and a day shift.

Qualifications

  • Histology experience 2-3 years required.
  • Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique including fixation, decalcification, processing, embedding and routine staining.
  • Ability to train new staff and manage problems in an organized manner.

Responsibilities

  • Trains new technologists and technicians on proper procedures and techniques, evaluates new technology for clinical application, and assists with updating procedure manuals for inspections and accreditation.
  • Processes, embeds, and sections tissue for microscopic examination.
  • Embeds complex cases that deviate from routine embedding procedures.
  • Performs specialized histologic procedures including nerve testing, enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Performs frozen sections, as required.
  • Maintains accuracy of case identification and specimen tracking to support patient safety.
  • Follows hospital and laboratory safety practices and maintains a clean work area.
