Job summary

Mass General Brigham in Boston is looking for a Histology Technologist to prepare tissue specimens by processing, embedding, and sectioning for microscopic examination, and to train new staff while assisting with updates to procedures for inspections. This onsite role at 275 Charles Street offers a 40-hour work week with a day shift.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 2–3 years histology experience, and HT/HTL ASCP certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
• Histology experience 2-3 years required.
• One of the following ASCP certifications required: HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP).

Responsibilities

• Trains new technologists and technicians on proper procedures and techniques, evaluates new technology for clinical application, and assists with updating procedure manuals for laboratory inspections and accreditation.
• Troubleshoots issues and escalates concerns to Senior Technologists or Supervisors as necessary.
• Processes, embeds, and sections tissue for microscopic examination.
• Embeds complex cases that deviate from routine embedding procedures.
• Performs specialized histologic procedures, as applicable, including nerve testing, enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and other advanced techniques.
• Performs frozen sections, as required.
• Performs preventative maintenance and quality control procedures, including oiling and cleaning microtomes, cleaning tissue processors, and changing staining solutions.
• Maintains accurate case identification and ensures appropriate specimen tracking throughout the entire process to support patient safety.
