Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a part-time Histology Technician for a 20-hour work week in Massachusetts. The candidate will prepare surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens, maintain QC records, and perform routine stains with proper controls.

Expertise in H&E and special stains, with strong documentation and safety practices, is essential. HT ASCP registration preferred, minimum two years in a hospital histology lab, and ability to handle routine and non-routine procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or college-level degree is not required if ASCP registered.
• Two years full-time experience in a hospital histology lab.
• HT ASCP registration preferred for Biopsy Processing roles.

Responsibilities

• Embed surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens with proper orientation.
• Perform microtomy and produce high-quality sections meeting standards.
• Conduct H&E and special stains with appropriate controls and documentation.
• Utilize computer systems to move workload and track blocks/logs.
• Perform non-routine procedures (Immunohistochemistry, muscle stains) within time frames.
• Prepare stains and reagents; ensure adequate stock.
• Perform basic maintenance and maintain clean, compliant workspace.
• Handle chemicals and infectious materials per policy; participate in waste reduction.
