Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth is seeking a part-time Histology Technician for evening shifts to prepare, process, embed, and stain tissue specimens for pathologist review. The role includes IHC staining, accessioning, and coordinating with providers on specimen issues.

Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, inventory, and safety, performing frozen sections, and training new staff in the histology area. Immunohistochemistry and CAP-aligned qualifications are required or pursued.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required.
• AS degree preferred.
• HT(ASCP) certification or Bachelor's degree (CAP HT minimums).

Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, embed, cut, coverslip, stain and mount tissue specimens for evaluation by the pathologist.
• Perform special staining procedures, including IHC on tissue and quality control slides.
• Accession specimens for Pathology and Cytology in the computer.
• Communicate with appropriate provider regarding specimen problems.
• Prepare GYN and Non-GYN cytology specimens and order molecular studies.
• Perform routine maintenance of equipment and instruments and keep records.
• Maintain inventory and communicate ordering needs to Clinical Specialist.
• Attend lab meetings, in-service education meetings and seminars.
• Pick up specimens from hospital areas regularly.
• Perform frozen sections.
• Train new employees and interns in assigned area.
• Dispose of specimens and hazardous chemicals safely.
