Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, IA is hiring a Release of Information Specialist. You will process requests for medical information, ensure HIPAA compliance, and collaborate with departments to resolve document and disclosure issues.

Hours are Monday–Friday 8am–4:30pm. This role requires attention to detail, strong customer service, and the ability to manage multiple requests with timely responses, while maintaining patient confidentiality and accurate invoicing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate degree in health science preferred.
• RHIT, RHIA, or CRIS certification preferred.
• Release of Information experience required.
• Experience in hospital/clinic or with electronic health records or related office/customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medical information per facility policy and state/federal laws.
• Notify appropriate UnityPoint Health areas of any court order/subpoena.
• Log and fulfill requests or submit to approved ROI vendor for fulfillment.
• Complete invoice and follow up on payment when fulfilled by staff.
• Receive and validate HIPAA-compliant authorizations/requests.
• Collaborate with departments to resolve issues related to documents and disclosures.
• Prioritize and respond to ROI requests within required timeframes.
• Perform self-quality checks for completeness, confidentiality and invoicing.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and facility information.
