Job summary

Providence Community Health Centers in Warwick, RI seeks a Manager of Health Information to lead the HIM department, ensuring accurate, complete patient records to support care, billing, and quality improvement while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws.

This role manages staff, policies, scanning, releases of information, and liaison with vendors, ensuring secure storage of records in paper and electronic formats and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

• Two-year Health Information program or equivalent experience (≈4 years) in Health Information required.
• Knowledge of Rhode Island state and federal laws and HIPAA privacy regulations regarding release of information.
• Analytical abilities and good judgment under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Medical terminology required.
• Presentation skills preferred.
• Proficient computer skills including an electronic health record, Windows applications and Microsoft.

Responsibilities

• Manages all activities and functions of the HIM department.
• Plans and prioritizes to meet deadlines and departmental goals.
• Develops and provides periodic in-services and educational sessions to other departments.
• Assists in uploading of digital faxes, scanning, sorting mail, and lab reconciliations.
• Participates in committees and supports health information management systems and medical record keeping processes.
• Supervises and coordinates the HIM staff and resources.
• Identifies operational problems and facilitates solutions with staff.
• Receives and reviews subpoenas/court orders for health records and notifies the Risk/HIPAA Privacy Officer.
• Conducts follow-up record reviews to clarify chart audits.
• Serves as liaison to Gorwood Systems, Inc. or other vendors; coordinates storage and retrieval of records.
