Job summary

Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways is seeking a Highway Superintendent to lead all operations for the department, including staff oversight and budgets for road construction, maintenance, and related projects.

The role reports to senior leadership, develops policies, and ensures safe, efficient highway operations across the County; a demanding public-service leadership position based in Chicago.

Qualifications

• Five years of civil/highway engineering or related experience.
• Current Illinois PE or Structural Engineer license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee annual and five-year highway improvement programs.
• Direct contract plans, specifications, and estimates for highway projects.
• Supervise contractors to ensure contract compliance.
• Operate roadway systems with proper traffic controls and permits.
• Develop the department's annual operating budget.
• Oversee purchasing procedures and county-wide policy adherence.
