Job summary
Cook County seeks a Highway Superintendent for Transportation & Highways to oversee all operations, including staff and agency activities, budgets, and contracts supporting road construction, maintenance, and projects.
The role reports to senior leadership and establishes department policies to guide bureaus. Requires five years in civil/highway engineering and an Illinois PE/SE license, with strong leadership and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience in civil and highway engineering, construction engineering, maintenance engineering, or directly related experience.
- Current registration in the State of Illinois as a Licensed Professional Engineer or Licensed Structural Engineer
- Experience managing budgets and personnel
Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and development of annual and five-year improvement programs for highways.
- Direct the preparation of contract plans, specifications and estimates for highway projects.
- Oversee acquisition of rights of way and easements for highway projects.
- Direct supervision of contractors to ensure compliance with contracts and laws.
- Oversee budgeting and purchasing procedures for the department.
