Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking workers to operate small equipment, perform maintenance on pavements, and assist with drainage and traffic-control installations. You may be called for emergency weather operations and extended shifts. A valid license is required, with CDL Class A expected within six months of placement.

This role involves hands-on labor across asphalt and concrete surfaces, signs, markings, and safety devices, with exposure to outdoor conditions and traffic.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment (dump truck, brush chipper, concrete mixer, roller, snow plow, spreader, etc.) and power/hand tools to perform maintenance activities.
• Assist with placement of traffic control devices and act as a flagger to direct and control traffic in maintenance work zones.
• Perform construction, repair, and preservation to asphalt and concrete pavements using proper repair techniques.
• Assist with installation/repair of catch basins, drainage structures, drainage pipes, traffic signs, pavement markings, and safety devices.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
