Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled worker to perform manual labor and operate heavy equipment along rights‑of‑way and along road surfaces. Duties include pouring, basins, pipes, flagging traffic, and equipment operation in varying weather and traffic conditions.

Responsibilities include snow/ice response, debris removal, and supporting drainage projects with safety and efficiency. CDL readiness is required within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six (6) months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor in building catch basins, pouring concrete for curbs and raised medians, laying pipes for driveways and other drainage structures.
• Operate standard dump trucks hauling asphalt, sand, clay, limestone and other maintenance materials.
• Flag traffic using proper devices during shoulder work and surface repairs to protect workers and the public.
• Operate small equipment such as a self-propelled sweeper and a small roller; use chain saw and hand tools as needed.
• Assist in snow/ice removal and hurricane lane reversal plans; operate a snowplow in hazardous weather.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
