Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, and road-paving equipment across District Six during the treatment season. The role requires a valid license and the ability to perform physically demanding outdoor duties in various weather conditions.

One year of related work experience is preferred; a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or equivalent
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required
• Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within six months of placement
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform outdoor tasks in varying weather

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, pavers, and related heavy equipment for road construction and maintenance
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections on equipment and assist in basic repairs
• Set up traffic control per MUTCD standards and work with road crews
• Ditch, shoulder and pothole work, snow/ice removal, and other duties as assigned by supervisor
