Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled equipment operator to haul materials and support roadway maintenance with various heavy tools and machinery. Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience is required.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be attained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium equipment such as tandem dump truck, belt loader, large roller (>4 tons), and skid steer loader to haul equipment and materials.
• Assists in operating a backhoe for loading materials needed for maintenance operations.
• Performs manual labor including building catch basins, pouring concrete and laying pipes; repairs shoulders and bridges.
• Sets up and flags traffic according to MUTCD standards to warn motorists of roadwork ahead.
• Performs pre-operation preventive maintenance inspections on vehicles/equipment as outlined in specifications.
