Job summary

The State of South Carolina seeks a skilled road maintenance equipment operator to run a range of heavy and medium equipment for the state highway system. You will operate excavators, loaders, graders, dump trucks, and lowboys, and assist with traffic control and emergency snow/ice operations.

The role requires one year of related work experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or approved equivalent.
• Requires a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders/backhoes, graders and lowboys for road maintenance and repair on the state highway system.
• Haul materials with tandem dump trucks and assist in patching potholes, shoulders and driveways as needed.
• Place and use survey markings and grade stakes for alignment and elevations; patch potholes and perform shoulder and ditch repairs.
• Assist with traffic control setup to maintain safe maintenance work zones and respond to winter weather operations.
