Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Supervisory Highway Maintenance Worker for the Orangeburg Maintenance Unit. You will supervise a crew performing road and right-of-way maintenance, operate and direct equipment like motor graders, dump trucks, backhoes, and belt loaders, and coordinate dirt hauling and ditching operations.

Required: at least 3.5 years related work experience, a valid driver's license, and the goal to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
• Within six months of placement, obtain Class A CDL

Responsibilities

• Supervise a crew of highway maintenance workers
• Oversee hauling of dirt and ditching operations to widen shoulders and slope banks
• Direct use of equipment (grader, belt loader, dump trucks, backhoe) on road maintenance
• Communicate with property owners adjacent to roadways and ensure safety and compliance
• Assist new operators on equipment and schedule county-wide ditching operations
