Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a skilled highway maintenance worker to perform heavy equipment operations and related manual labor along roadways and bridges. You will handle tasks such as mowing, brush and vegetation control, and safe traffic control in work zones.

Responsibilities include operating equipment (backhoe, dozer, excavator, loader), daily maintenance, and ensuring worker safety. A valid CDL and physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs are required, with potential long shifts

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or approved equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license; Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather.
• Commitment to safety practices and PPE compliance.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, dozer, excavator and loader.
• Perform roadside mowing, brush management and vegetation control.
• Assist with directing mowing and right-of-way clearing operations.
• Conduct daily preventative maintenance and safety inspections on equipment.
• Coordinate traffic control devices and maintenance work zones.
