Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to perform skilled maintenance on highways and bridges and operate heavy equipment including Backhoe, Dozer, Loader, and other machinery. The role involves mowing, vegetation management, and right-of-way work in various weather conditions.

Requirements include at least one year of related experience, a valid driver's license, and attainment of a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required on entry.
• Attainment of Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as Backhoe, Dozer, Excavator, Loader, and Snow Plow as part of highway and bridge maintenance.
• Perform roadside vegetation management and maintain sight distance and right-of-way.
• Coordinate traffic control devices and ensure safety practices, PPE usage, and flagging operations.
• Conduct daily preventive maintenance and report equipment wear, leaks, and faults.
