Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Transportation, seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to support highway and bridge maintenance operations. You will drive tandem dump trucks, operate loaders, backhoes, and other heavy machinery to perform construction-related tasks and keep equipment in good working condition.

You will conduct safety inspections, assist in weather-related operations, and maintain daily records of work performed and materials used.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate tandem dump truck with trailers for hauling material and transporting equipment.
• Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loader, ditcher tractor, backhoes, and slope mowers.
• Perform maintenance-related tasks and safety inspections on vehicles/equipment.
• Assist with creating daily records of work performed and materials used.
• Participate in emergency or inclement weather operations as needed.
