Job summary

The State of South Carolina’s Department of Transportation seeks a skilled highway maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, graders, and loaders for road and bridge maintenance and pavement repairs. You will conduct safety checks, perform routine maintenance, and assist in snow/ice operations.

Required: 1 year of related experience and a valid driver's license, with CDL Class A to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• 1 year of related work experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• CDL Class A must be obtained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, grader, loader) for highway maintenance and repair.
• Repair asphalt and concrete pavement and perform base repairs.
• Set up traffic control devices and maintain a safe work zone.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment.
• Assist in snow and ice response and other maintenance tasks as needed.
