Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a motivated employee to operate a tandem dump truck and support a maintenance crew. You will haul materials, clear ditches, and assist with traffic control during road repairs.

Qualifications include six months of related experience or equivalent, a valid operator's license, and the goal to obtain a Class A CDL within six months. Some outdoor and heavy lifting duties applicable.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operates a tandem dump truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris.
• Works with a maintenance crew performing ditch and shoulder work, cleaning pipes and ditches including cleaning pipe ends, and replacing mailboxes, posts and highway signs.
• Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic and protect equipment, workers and the public; assists supervisor in traffic control setup.
• Operates a chainsaw in cutting trees on right-of-way; assists with inclement weather and after-hour emergencies.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
