Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Transportation, seeks qualified personnel for road maintenance and equipment operation. Responsibilities include operating motor graders, loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks for ditching, grading, and drainage work, with snow/ice removal and traffic control duties as needed.

This role requires at least one year of related work experience or an approved equivalence, plus a valid driver's license and eventual attainment of a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operates motor graders in ditching, shoulder operations, grading and machining roads, driveway installation or snow and ice removal.
• Operates a combination front-end loader and backhoe to clean out drainage ditches and to install sideline and crossline pipe.
• Operates a tandem dump truck hauling materials to and from the jobsite.
• Operates hand and power tools; uses chainsaws to remove trees and limbs from right of way.
• Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; may include extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Sets up traffic control per MUTCD standards to warn motorists of roadwork ahead.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
