Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a field technician to perform manual labor tasks related to drainage installation and repair, operate power tools and medium-duty equipment, and assist with vegetation management and traffic control in work zones. The role supports road and bridge maintenance within the state highway system.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• CDL Class A must be obtained within six months of placement.
• Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor to install/repair catch basins and drainage structures and lay drainage pipes.
• Operate power tools and medium-duty equipment as needed.
• Support road/bridge maintenance within the state highway system including traffic control setup per guidelines.
• Assist in emergency/inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
