Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to perform a wide range of road and bridge maintenance tasks on the state highway system. You will operate heavy equipment such as graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and snowplows to support construction, repair, and preservation activities.

Key duties include patching roadway surfaces, installing signs, pouring concrete for curbs and sidewalks, and conducting safety inspections of equipment and job sites.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• CDL Class A within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roads and bridges using a range of heavy equipment.
• Patch roadway base and surface; install and maintain signs and drainage features.
• Set forms, pour and finish concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks.
• Inspect and maintain equipment; monitor maintenance schedules and wear.
• Assist in snow removal and inclement weather operations; on-call rotations.
